Sente Promotes Annual Summer Legislative Internship Program

“This internship offers a valuable opportunity for students with a diverse set of interests to develop a variety of skills that help them stand out to potential employers later in life,” Sente said. “Whether or not you decide to pursue a career in government, an internship in a legislative office provides an increased appreciation for the important role state government plays in residents’ lives. You quickly realize how many people rely on state services and require assistance in navigating them.”

Sente’s Legislative Internship Program offers young people the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in state government by interning in her full-time constituent service office located in Vernon Hills. Internship responsibilities include researching and writing about legislation; learning about local and state issues; assisting with community outreach projects and events; and developing a detailed understanding of office communications and operations. The internship lasts from June through August, is unpaid, and offers flexible work hours.

“There has never been a more important time for students to engage in public service,” Sente said. “Our past interns have done an amazing job of assisting our office with constituent outreach and in coordinating events, so I like forward to seeing what we are able to accomplish together this summer.”

Sente encourages high school and college students with a strong interest in local and state government to apply. Applicants should send a cover letter and resume to or submit a paper version to Sente’s constituent service office at the Laschen Community Center, 294 Evergreen Drive, Vernon Hills, IL 60061.
