Sente Resolution Dedicates Overpass to Fallen Trooper

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – A legislative measure introduced by State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, led to the designation of a suburban tollway bridge as the “Trooper James Sauter Memorial Overpass” during a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

“Trooper Sauter exemplified honor and bravery. His family is proud of him, as are his co-workers and the State of Illinois,” Sente said. “We must never forget his legacy, nor his brothers and sisters in law enforcement who risk their lives each day to keep our families safe. We need to support our heroes in blue, as never before has this profession been more challenging for those who serve and protect our communities.”

House Joint Resolution 2, introduced by Sente in the Legislature, memorializes Illinois State Police Trooper James Sauter by renaming the Willow Road Bridge on Interstate 294 as the “Trooper James Sauter Memorial Overpass.” Trooper Sauter, a Vernon Hills resident, tragically lost his life in the line of duty when a semitrailer truck collided with his parked patrol car near the overpass on March 28, 2013. The dedication ceremony was attended by Sauter’s family and dozens of members of the law enforcement community.
