Sente Votes to Reduce Legislative Salaries

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, issued the following statement after voting to decrease legislator salaries through the elimination of the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) received by General Assembly members for Fiscal Year 2016:

“As a former small business owner, I understand the importance of having state government live within its means and cutting unaffordable costs. When so many families are struggling just to make ends meet and essential programs continue to go unfunded, it is unfair for public servants to give themselves a pay raise. Legislators need to lead by example and should not be taking more for themselves while the people we serve are hurting.”

House Bill 576 passed the Illinois House with bipartisan support and awaits further consideration in the Senate.
