Sente Backs Legislation to Level Playing Field for Small Businesses

04/05/2017

“Getting a business’ name out there is crucial with the extent that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are embedded into our lives,” Sente said. “Large corporations can employ expensive consulting firms that know how to use the information from these social media platforms to increase profits, but unfortunately this isn’t always the case for small and medium-size business owners. This legislation would help level the playing field by offering assistance for many of the corporate tools entrepreneurs simply cannot afford.”

The Sente-backed House Bill 1813 would create the “Networking for Success Program” to provide small and medium-sized businesses with assistance in market research, strategic media outreach marketing and web related development through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. To be eligible, program participants must have been located in Illinois for at least two years, employ 10 to 50 people, and demonstrate steady annual revenues prior to application.

“While it is possible to create a valuable service or great product, if no one knows about it, an entrepreneur’s hard work, time, energy, and money is largely wasted,” Sente continued. “Marketing is a critical part of a business plan, and I am excited for the countless small businesses that will have the tools to better compete against large corporations if this legislation becomes law.”

House Bill 1813 passed Sente’s House Business Growth and Incentives Committee on Thursday and awaits further consideration on the House Floor.
